Understanding the Lash Growth Cycle (and Why Refill Appointments Matter)

The Lash Growth Cycle: Why It Matters for Lash Extensions

Have you ever wondered why your lash extensions seem to fall out over time—even when they’re applied perfectly? The answer lies in your natural lash growth cycle.

At Lashes On Point, we’re not just here to make your lashes look beautiful—we’re here to protect their health. That starts with understanding how lashes grow and making sure we apply extensions in a way that respects the natural cycle of your lashes.

🌱 The 3 Phases of the Lash Growth Cycle

Your natural lashes go through a continuous cycle with three key stages:

1. Anagen Phase (Active Growth)

This is when your lash is growing and still attached to the dermal papilla (its source of nutrients). Lashes in this phase are young and delicate—what we call "baby lashes."

2. Catagen Phase (Transition)

The lash stops growing and begins to detach from the blood supply. It’s no longer a baby, but still not fully mature.

3. Telogen Phase (Resting & Shedding)

This is the end of the cycle. The lash is fully grown and resting before it eventually sheds to make room for a new one. When a lash in this phase falls out, it takes any attached extension with it—this is completely normal.

🔁 Why Natural Lash Shedding Means Refill Appointments Are Essential

Just like the hair on your head, lashes naturally shed—usually between 2 to 5 lashes per eye, per day. When a lash extension is applied to a natural lash, it falls out when that lash reaches the end of its cycle.

That’s why refill appointments every 2–3 weeks are essential. During these appointments, we apply extensions to the new grown lashes and replace any that have shed.

🛡️ How Lashes On Point Protects the Lash Growth Cycle

At Lashes On Point, we understand that not every lash is in the same phase. Our lash technicians are trained to assess the strength and maturity of each lash, only applying extensions to those that are strong enough to safely support the weight.

We never overburden baby lashes (Anagen stage) with extensions, which protects their development and prevents premature shedding or long-term damage to your natural lash line.

This thoughtful, tailored approach:

  • Maintains your lash health long-term

  • Reduces breakage or gaps

  • Keeps your lashes looking full and lush—naturally

💡 Did You Know?

We often get asked, “Why are my lash extensions falling out?” It’s rarely due to poor application. In most cases, it’s just the natural Telogen phase at work. Your lash is simply shedding—and taking the extension with it.
